March 2011 Year of the Turtle Calendar and Newsletter Now Available!

Our colleagues in the Turtle Conservation Coalition have just released their latest “Top 25 Turtles in Trouble” report, which we feature in this issue of the newsletter as part of this month's international turtle conservation theme.  Please download the latest information on turtle conservation in our March newsletter, including ways you can help!

This month, our Year of the Turtle News issue (attached with this email and available at www.yearoftheturtle.org) highlights international turtle conservation efforts and features some great stories about conservation efforts across the globe.  In particular, we highlight the Turtle Conservation Coalition’s findings from their recent report.

Also, be sure to check out our March 2011 calendar “pin-up” – an international “model” in leopard print!  Congratulations to Jelger Herder, an employee of RAVON (whose acronym in English translates to Reptiles, Amphibian, and Fish Conservation Netherlands), for taking the winning photo for our March photo contest and calendar.  Jelger photographed a young Leopard Tortoise (Geochelone pardalis) in 2007 while searching for reptiles in Mkhuze, South Africa.  His photo was chosen as the March featured photo out of hundreds of photos received since our contest began.  All photos will continue to be considered for future calendar months, as well as for use in other YoT products and documents.  More information about our ongoing photo contest is available at  http://www.parcplace.org/yearoftheturtlephoto.htm.
